LOS ANGELES CARNIVAL ON TOUR

Los Angeles Carnival On Tour™ is an educational and performing carnival arts ensemble.

Our mission

Our mission is to use carnival arts to enhance social and educational events by encouraging cross-cultural dialogue and better understanding and appreciation for the diversity of human experience.

We accomplish our mission by bringing multi-cultural educational workshops and carnival arts performances into schools and communities that would not normally experience this cultural expression.

The Ensemble

Los Angeles Carnival On Tour™ consists of dancers, musicians and educators, and can be presented in groups ranging from 2 to 50 or more musicians, educators and costumed dancers, wearing small, medium or large costumes. The costumes range from individual decorated body suits to large pieces that the dancer must display by rolling them on wheels. The costumes combine color, shape and size to depict aspects of overriding themes.

Brief History:

Los Angeles Carnival On Tour™ was formed in order to share the carnival experience with communities that might not otherwise experience this art form.  The ensemble has been presented at Carnaval San Francisco, California African American Museum, Carnaval UCLA, Westchester Christmas Parade, the Kwanza Parade, Kingdom Day Parade, City of Lynwood, City of Downey and is a staple presentation at the annual Los Angeles Carnival Parade.

Los Angeles Carnival On Tour is the current Dance Champion of the Kingdom Day Parade in Los Angeles, having placed first in each of its appearances in the parade. Winners of the Kathryn Dunham Dance Trophy in 2007, 2009 and 2010.

Fees

Fees for Los Angeles Carnival On Tour™ are determined by the combination of costumes, musicians and educational workshops provided.  There is a minimum cost to mount a performance especially if the larger costumes are involved as they incur transportation costs and require more technical assistance. Workshops are organized for a minimum of ten students and can incorporate standard-based educational instruction in a variety of disciplines. Workshops can be provided during regular school day or as an after school or community program.
