The Voice of
A People, the Rhythm of a Region™
CARICABELA is a Los
Angeles based business, arts and cultural organization. It was founded in 1994
to provide a forum for business communication and personal fellowship between
diverse groups of Caribbean-Americans and with the wider Los Angeles
community. In addition to being an organization, CARICABELA is also an annual
event that celebrates and shares the hopes, dreams and aspirations of the
Caribbean American people.
The Mission of the
organization is to facilitate business opportunities, advance education, promote
community well-being and reduce boundaries to cross-cultural understanding.
CARICABELA works to
advance appreciation for the diversity of human experiences by sponsoring and
participating in business, art, cultural and humanitarian activities throughout
California. Its annual flagship event is CARICABELA Caribbean Heritage
Celebration and Los Angeles Carnival, which take place each October.
Recognizing the shared
history of the Caribbean with many Central and/or South American cultures,
CARICABELA has embraced a policy of inclusion of this region but because there
are other organizations effectively serving those communities, CARICABELA’s
focus has remained primarily Caribbean.
CARICABELA™ accomplishes
its mission by:

Producing
and supporting projects, which advance economic, cultural, social development.

Protecting,
celebrating and respecting the multi-cultural heritage of the region.

Serving
as a forum for the discussion of topical issues; and providing an information
conduit between the general community and Caribbean-American communities.

Nurturing
the children of Caribbean immigrants by educating them about their cultural
heritage and encouraging them to incorporate that heritage into the values of
their resident communities.

Promoting community well being by rendering assistance to those in need
and participating in efforts to relieve the effects of tragedies and natural
disasters.

Establishing a center
for the preservation of the region’s cultural heritage.
